‘Newbies’ in research: Latest Subject Domains Gaining Popularity among Scholars

Research transforms; it indeed does change the future course of actions in associated fields. More recently, the research field is witnessing a boom in new concepts and ideas which are being fuelled by technological innovations. The scope of research changes drastically each time a new discovery/invention is made, which adds up to the long list of subjects to be studied. In recent times, many new disciplines have been gaining immense popularity in the research field.

Some of the new entrants in research that are expected to deliver news-breaking research works in the near future include:

1. Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology, basically a study and use of structures ranging from 1 nanometer (nm) to 100-nanometer size, is an emerging area that engages almost every technical discipline to the application of extremely tiny materials. Research in nanotechnology has a wider scope and finds its application in nanomedicines, electronics, food, space, etc.

2. Cloud computing

Cloud computing is rapidly developing the technology. Aiming at building a sophisticated service environment, is a product of grid, parallel and distributed computing. The research topics included in cloud computing are cloud deployment and service model, cloud security, mobile cloud computing, edge computing, etc.

3. Big data & data analytics

Data is everywhere. Data analytics is the trending domain in a research area that analyses data to observe the pattern. A primary objective of big data is to describe the extreme collection of data. Research topics in big data & data analytics include data mining tools, IOT, AI, big data models, Hadoop programming, stream data processing, etc.

4. Mechatronics

Mechatronics ‘key to innovation’ is the trending topic in the research area. Mechatronic is nothing but the synergistic combination of precision mechanical engineering, electronic control, and manufacturing processes. One can conduct research in topics like faults detection system with audio feedback, the virtual model of the bone healing process, Development of an ultrasound phantom for 3D perfusion analysis and many more.

5. Aeronautics

A specialized branch in aviation involves the science of study, designing and construction of airplane and spacecraft. Crash survival design, nanocoating in airplanes, aeronautical satellite communications, etc.

6. Machine learning

Machine learning, a new concept in the field of computer science, is a technique of guiding computers to act in a certain way without programming. It makes use of certain complex algorithms to receive an input and predict the output for the same. There are three types of learning; Supervised learning, Unsupervised learning and Reinforcement learning.

7. MANET

The ‘mobile ad hoc network’ also known as wireless ad hoc network, the latest trend in the networking field, consists of a set of mobile nodes wirelessly connected in a self-configured and self-healing network. MANET has been receiving attention from researchers in recent years as they are capable of detecting malicious dropping packets which is a crucial issue in networks. Also, MANET finds its applications in military, smart home, disaster rescue, and healthcare areas.

8. Internet of things

Internet of things (IoT), a concept of interconnections of various devices, makes use of actuators and sensors for transferring data to and from the devices. This technology is developed for better efficiency and accuracy apart from minimizing human interaction with the devices. IoT finds its application in home automation, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, and the environment.

9. Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is a field that uses various computational methods and software tools to analyze the biological data. This field is a combination of computer science, biology, statistics, and mathematics. Bioinformatics helps in observing mutations in the field of genetics, helps to study the various aspects of genes like protein expression and regulation, genetic data can be compared using bioinformatics which will help in understanding molecular biology, simulation and modeling of DNA, RNA, and proteins can be done using bioinformatics tools.
